Current genetic research is consistent with the
theory that a major migration of people out of Africa occurred 100,000 to 200,00
years ago. Modern Africans show greater genetic diversity than people do
in other parts of the world. This suggests that the African gene pool has
greater antiquity than that of Europe or Asia, and thus that modern humans
originated in Africa.
